Gatsby Tracking Suprisingly Well, Iron Man 3 Dropoff Expected To Be Large

The Great Gatsby pulled in a spectacular 19.4 million dollars yesterday, and is heading towards an impressive 50+ million dollar opening weekend. What does that mean for Iron man 3? though it will remain on top of the box office, it held a 72% drop off from last weeks Friday and this weeks Friday. It is still looking at a 65-70 million dollar weekend, which should push its gross to about 275-290 million domestically. Right ahead of Oz The Great And Powerful as the highest domestic total of the year. If it continues to have the same or even a bigger drop off next weekend with Star Trek Into Darkness coming out. Iron Man 3 will struggle to reach the 400 million dollar domestic mark, which isn't a huge deal because the overseas numbers are great. If it doesn't reach 400 million I will guarantee that Man Of Steel will make more domestically than Iron man 3. I don't know how it will do overseas however, Marvel clearly focused their marketing for overseas success.

What this shows is Warner Brothers may have struck gold with its F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation. The budget is expected to be in the lower 100 million dollar range. If it even has marginally the success that it is having in the U.S, Gatsby is a sure fire success. Despite mixed reviews it could prove to be a good money maker for a company that still has 2 cash cows sitting in the horizon (Man Of Steel, The Hobbit Part 2).

Iron Man 3 will still hit the billion dollar mark world wide, you can bet on that.
