Though the success of Iron Man 3 was never in question, a 175 million dollar opening weekend was thought to be rather insane. Not anymore because that is exactly what Iron Man 3 achieved this weekend, a fantastic financial start to phase 2. The 175 million dollar opening is the 2nd largest of all time behind none other than The Avengers which grossed a whopping 207 million last year. What does this mean for the financial powerhouse that is Marvel Studios?
I could assume that it means the only risk Marvel will be taking is in its films Ant-man and Guardians Of The Galaxy. The other sequel films will follow the same formula that is proven to sell to all audiences. For the people who are tired of that same formula you will get trailers that deceive the actual tone of the film much like Iron Man 3 did. Disney likes money, Marvel makes money, there is nothing else that needs to be said. If anything the huge opening will allowing for a bigger paycheck to go to one of Marvel's oldest actors in Robert Downey Jr. We will see what Marvel has to offer with its next film Thor: The Dark World on November 8th of this year.
