Though rumors are just rumors and it's hard to justify it as a fact, this rumor is of course a big one. By no ways do I mean the actor Jonathan Rhys Meyer is a big addition because he is far from stardom, but the movie itself is sure to be one of the biggest hits of 2015. The rumor is courtesy of Latino-Review, whose rumors of late have missed the mark more than they have hit. That is not to say that they are entirely unreliable, cause they have broken big news in the past. That is besides the point however lets talk about the actor who may be staring in Episode 7.
A while back I read multiple articles saying that the story of Star Wars: Episode 7 will revolve around a teenage girl and her mentor. Much like the Anakin and Obi-Wan story line in the prequels. This leads me to believe if this rumor is indeed true, than Meyers would be playing either the mentor or a villain. Though I am very unfamiliar with Meyers from the look of him, I could see him being the mentor type. He seems to have a very smooth, wise look to him much like Ewan McGregor had. Meyers of course known for his 4 year skid on The Tutors, which co-stared Henry Cavill who is certain to make a name for himself this Summer in Man Of Steel. While an unlike choice to lead a film that needs a major revamp, the prequels were extremely underwhelming, yet still a successful cash grab. One of the biggest problems with Meyers is not his ability but his alcohol addiction. He has been in Rehab twice, and has multiple times been arrested for his behavior when under the influence. I am not going to sit here and break down Meyers life because by all means it wasn't pretty. This however wouldn't be the first time someone recovered from alcoholism and becomes a household name (See Robert Downey Jr.). In pure acting ability you could argue that Meyers holds more talent and range than Downey did before his recovery. All I am saying is the man is not a lost cause if he can get straight. My initial thought was a A-list star is needed to help draw others back into this somewhat staggering franchise. However, J.J Abrams (who will be directing) struck gold with his Star Trek reboot which starred no A-listers at the time. If Meyers is as good as I have heard he is, then seeing him with a light saber and a robe will be a great addition for me.
